Tickets will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (except Covel Commons — available 24 hours). To obtain a ticket, you must present your own BruinCard at one of the distribution locations. Due to the anticipated number of staff attending the event, you may only pick up your own lunch with your picnic ticket.

August One Bus, One Cause

On Saturday, August 6th, the Office of Assemblymember Richard Bloom, in partnership with the Youth Policy Institute and After-School All-Stars, will be hosting a free Family Resource Fair at the Hollywood Recreation Center and Park, and they need community volunteers to make the event a success!

The fair is a great opportunity for local families to interact with nonprofit and government representatives and learn about city resources and programs. It is also a chance for the children of these families to receive free back-to-school supplies to help them prepare for the upcoming year. The day will include wonderful educational booths, food, obstacle courses, and some specialized experiences like an exploration of the ocean floor and a simulation of a 5.7 magnitude earthquake!

Volunteers will help with the facilitation of games and obstacle courses, distribution of school supplies and food and management of event check-in. If you are interested in helping make this fair a fun experience, please register at http://volunteer.ucla.edu/one-bus-one-cause/.

Registration now open for this year’s MMWCon

Registration is now open for the fourth annual Mobility and Modern Web Conference (MMWCon) taking place at UCLA on Wednesday, September 14 through Friday, September 16, 2016. MMWCon is for developers, educators, researchers and innovators who are part of the disruption revolution and interested in the latest trends of mobile and the modern web.

This year's conference themes include:

Sensors, wearables and accessibility applications
Mobility, personalization and the high-touch frontier of apps and the web
mHealth, machine learning and blending data into dashboards
Open communities, standards and collaborative technologies
Learning analytics and digital credentialing

The Early Bird Non-Profit rate of $295 runs through July 31st. The conference features two days of engaging and relevant sessions followed by a day of hands-on workshops where participants will learn practical knowledge and skills. The conference is presented by the UCLA Office of Information Technology in association with higher education and corporate partners.

UC’s New Retirement Benefits Options

UC Retirement Benefits Choice Program launches for new employees.

On July 1, 2016, UC launched its UC Retirement Choice Program for new (and newly eligible) employees. The new retirement choice program was approved by the UC Board of Regents at its March 2016 meeting, as part of a broader effort to maintain the university’s excellence and sustain its long-term financial health.
