UCLA True Bruin Moove & Groove 5k


Are you ready for the 2016 UCLA True Bruin Moove and Groove 5k!? The UCLA Staff Assembly, with sponsorship from the UCLA Healthy Campus Initiative, is hosting the 3rd Annual True Bruin Move and Groove 5K on Sunday, March 6, 2016 on the UCLA campus. Team up with your family, friends and co-workers and join this unique event that aims at providing those with ties to UCLA an even greater chance to connect to the university by showing their Bruin pride in a fun and healthy atmosphere.

Whether you run or walk, all race finishers will receive an official True Bruin Move and Groove 5K t-shirt, a goodie bag, a finisher's medal, and a running bib. This event will be timed by Gemini Timing. Interested participants can register for the event now through February 14, 2016 for the Early Bird price $25!

Learn-at-Lunch: Dance Fit Break!

Want to keep your New Year’s resolutions of exercising regularly or developing healthier habits? Did you know that UCLA has many programs that can assist staff with getting in better shape and maintaining a healthy lifestyle? UCLA Staff Assembly is proud to present in partnership with UCLA Recreation a Dance Fit Break and a brief Fitwell/Livewell information session, for our January Learn-at-Lunch.

Mandy Muenzer, a Fitwell Education & Outreach Coordinator from UCLA Recreation, and her Fitwell team will be providing some brief dance lessons as a special Fit Break for UCLA staff and faculty. Shortly after the dance Fit Break, the Fitwell staff will also inform us about several events and programs they are involved with throughout the year that could be of interest to any staff trying to improve their overall fitness and wellness in 2016.

UCLA Recreation: Improvised Weapons Seminar

This self-defense seminar will cover the use of everyday items as self-defense tools in various attacks. Regular items such as pens, water bottles, backpacks, belts and scarves can be used to protect yourself from an attack especially if the attacker has a knife or some other dangerous weapon. This multi-disciplined seminar will include techniques from Filipino Martial Arts, Ninjutsu, Silat and Hapkido. Students will be able to learn how to use their everyday items in efficient and effective ways to disable the bad guy!

When – Friday February 12th at 5:30pm-7:30pm
