 Learn @ Lunch: People-Animal Connection

Take a break and see the super cute therapy animals that bring warmth to more than 1,000 critically ill patients each month.

Thursday, November 19, 2020
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

UCLA People-Animal Connection (PAC) is one of the most comprehensive Animal-Assisted Therapy and Activity programs in the nation.

PAC volunteer teams (consisting of the canine and their human partner) offer companionship and warmth to more than 1,000 critically ill children and adults per month. Since its inception in 1994, PAC teams have recorded more than 120,000 in-patients visits, as well as hundreds of thousands unrecorded visits to families and guests to UCLA medical centers and community events.

PAC's core foundation is to enhance physical healing and emotional well-being through the canines' instinctive bond with patients of all ages, cultures, and socioeconomic levels.

Free COVID-19 Mobile Testing for UCLA students & employees.

Free COVID-19 Mobile Testing for Bruins

UCLA Transportation and UCLA’s Arthur Ashe Student Health & Wellness Center have partnered to bring COVID testing directly to the UCLA community by converting a BruinBus into a mobile testing unit. The UCLA Mobile Testing Bus operates weekdays in locations convenient to where many Bruins live in communities near the campus. Testing is free for employees and students with an active BruinCard, and made easy using a self-administered nasal swab that is quick and painless. Most results arrive within 24-36 hours via text or email. For more information on hours and locations or to schedule an appointment, visit the Ashe Center’s website.

Astro @ UCLA: The Next Generation

Featuring remarks by 2020 Nobel Prize winner Andrea Ghez

Wednesday, November 18, 2020
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

A glimpse into the future of astronomical discovery featuring UCLA Astronomy's newest faculty.

UCLA astronomers, among them recent Nobel prize winner Andrea Ghez, are leading the way with ground-breaking discoveries on a vast scale – from planets, to stars, to galaxies, to the entirety of the universe.

This is truly an amazing moment for astronomical discovery. New worlds are being uncovered around other stars. Einstein's Theory of General Relativity is facing new tests near the supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. Precise measurements of the expansion rate of the universe are challenging our notions of the standard model of cosmology. Tune in to hear UCLA Astronomy's newest faculty members Tuan Do, Smadar Naoz, Erik Petigura, and Tommaso Treu highlight the latest research results from our department.
